Sophia Blankson brings over 30 years of professional experience in nursing, midwifery, and healthcare leadership to her role as a Board Member and Senior Regulatory Specialist of the Africa Institute for Regulatory Affairs (AIFRA). As the current Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Mrs. Blankson has extensive expertise in developing policies and procedures to ensure high standards of care and regulatory compliance.
Through her Master’s degree in Advanced Practice Nursing and Bachelor’s degree in Management and Psychology, Mrs. Blankson has built advanced knowledge at the intersection of clinical practice, healthcare administration, and organizational behavior. As part of her leadership positions at both regional and national healthcare agencies in Ghana, she has evaluated training programs, coordinated nurse licensing protocols, assessed quality assurance policies, and contributed to impactful reforms.
Mrs. Blankson’s background positions her well to support AIFRA’s mission to build regulatory capacity and ethical oversight systems across Africa. She brings direct regulatory experience from serving on hospital boards and government committees designing proper controls. Her focus on evidence-based protocols and commitment to inclusion align with AIFRA’s core principles. Through her instructional roles and committee participation, Mrs. Blankson also has experience supporting stakeholder collaboration and transparency in decision making.
With her extensive clinical, managerial and policy knowledge, Mrs. Blankson provides important guidance as AIFRA grows its academic programs, research portfolio and advisory services. Her systems-level perspective on regulation combined with her passion for nurturing talent through teaching and mentoring is an asset to AIFRA’s board.
