Assessment System and Metrics

The point allocations aim to provide a balanced, comprehensive assessment taking into account academic preparation, progressive regulatory work experience, ongoing professional development investment, competency evidence, and additional contributions to the field. 

 

The heavily weighted experience component and inclusion of competency-based assessments align to AIFRA’s experiential learning philosophy. Modular course completion incentivizes progressing through the AIFRA curriculum.

Evaluators would review portfolio documentation, validate claims and evidence, and assign points according to the rubric. An appeals process could enable score explanations, while inter-rater reliability procedures would promote consistency.

 

This systematic approach quantifying multiple qualification inputs offers an objective yet adaptable framework for making defensible credentialing determinations and guiding applicants’ professional growth pathways with AIFRA.

Assessment Components and Point Allocations:

                                            Academic Transcripts and Degrees (150 points total)

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g. law, public policy, science, engineering): 50 points
  • Master’s degree in relevant field: +50 points
  • Doctoral degree in relevant field: +50 points
  • Coursework evaluation:
    • 5 points per highly relevant course (up to 50 points max)
    • 3 points per somewhat relevant course (up to 30 points max)

                                      Regulatory Work Experience (300 points total)

  • Years of experience:
    • 2-5 years (Regulatory Associate level): 50 points
    • 5-10 years (Regulatory Professional level): 100 points
    • 10+ years (Senior Regulatory Specialist level): 150 points
  • Scope and impact of regulatory work:
    • Implementing regulations/conducting inspections: Up to 50 points
    • Developing/revising regulations and regulatory strategy: Up to 75 points
    • Leading major regulatory initiatives/teams: Up to 100 points
    • Accomplishment and leadership evidence (e.g. project outcomes, team size, stakeholder testimonials): Up to 50 points

                                        Training and Continuous Learning (200 points total)

  • AIFRA modular courses completed:
    •     20 points per Regulatory Associate module
    •     25 points per Regulatory Professional module
    • 30 points per Senior Regulatory Specialist module
  • Other relevant training programs completed: 10 points each, up to 50 points max
  • Conferences attended: 5 points each, up to 25 points max 
  • Certifications earned: 10 points each, up to 50 points max

 

                                           Competency Assessments (250 points total)

  • Evaluation of work samples/artifacts demonstrating competencies: Up to 100 points
  • 360-degree evaluations from supervisors, peers, stakeholders: Up to 50 points
  • Situational judgment tests and simulations: Up to 100 points

                                               Thought Leadership and Service (100 points total)

  • Publications in regulatory journals/forums: 10 points each, up to 50 points max
  • Conference presentations delivered: 10 points each, up to 30 points max
  • Teaching/mentoring junior regulatory staff: Up to 20 points
  • Volunteering/community outreach related to regulatory field: Up to 20 points

  • Regulatory Associate: 400-599 points 
  • Regulatory Professional: 600-799 points
  • Senior Regulatory Specialist: 800-1000 points
  • Total Possible Points: 1000

For Applicants who lack traditional academic credentials:

Assessment system tailored for applicants who lack traditional academic credentials but possess significant regulatory experience:

 

In this system, the emphasis is placed on the depth, breadth, and impact of the applicant’s regulatory work experience. The increased points for experience aim to compensate for the lack of formal academic qualifications. 

 

References and endorsements from colleagues and supervisors who can attest to the applicant’s regulatory expertise and contributions are given weight. Submitting additional portfolio materials that demonstrate proficiency and impact in regulatory roles provides another avenue to showcase capabilities.

 

The training and competency assessment components remain consistent with the standard system, ensuring a common baseline for professional development and skill expectations across all applicants.

 

Applicants would compile their portfolio with detailed descriptions of work experience, references, and supporting materials. Evaluators would then assess the evidence against the defined rubric, awarding points based on the extent and significance of the experience, the strength of endorsements, and the quality of additional materials.

 

This alternative system maintains the rigor and comprehensiveness of the assessment while acknowledging the value of hands-on regulatory experience and the insights of credible references in determining an applicant’s readiness for AIFRA qualifications.

    • 5-10 years (Regulatory Associate level): 100 points
    • 10-15 years (Regulatory Professional level): 150 points
